ESNA In this modern town just south of Luxor, a Ptolemaic/Roman temple was built and dedicated primarily to the ram-headed god Khnum of the annual flood; dedications were also made to Neith, and Heka (magic). The Hypostyle hall is very well preserved and has many beautiful, and colorful depictions dating from the 1st to 3rd c AD. This Khnum temple was one of the latest temples built in Egypt. As this temple is now about 9 meters below the street level and close to the water table, the temple’s foundations are in danger of destruction unless efforts are made to correct the problem.
